Advanced Mediation Skills

June 26 @ 9:00 am - June 27 @ 4:30 pm

This advanced skills class is an opportunity to expand your skills and practices as you encounter more complex cases. Through demonstrations and role plays, you will gain competencies using facilitative, directive and transformative mediations. You will also learn how to destabilize the narratives people tell, handle high conflict personalities, know when to walk away from a case and practice reflecting on imperfect mediations, using reflective practices.

Specific Objectives:
● Gain practical tools to handle race and other equity related cases
● Learn to stay calm when the parties escalate the conflict or walk away
● Discuss mediators’ ethical obligations when confidentiality is not an option
● Practice the use of questions to get through impasses and create transformational moments
● Bring a challenging case for the group to work on together
● Have fun working with colleagues from different areas of practice to deepen you experience
