Legal Information vs. Legal Advice in the Context of Court-Connected Mediation

December 6 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

Court-connected mediators often face questions and requests for legal advice from mediation participants. Do you know how to respond to these types of questions in a court-connected mediation session?

This two-hour webinar will:

  • Outline the differences between legal information and legal advice.
  • Summarize the risks of engaging in the unlawful practice of law.
  • Provide a structure for responding to questions and requests for legal advice during mediation.
  • Highlight ethical implications and other nuances for mediators to consider.

This is a beginner-level court-system training;  however, this training may be a useful refresher for experienced court-connected mediators. 1 OSB MCLE general credit will be requested.

Speakers are Caitlyn Jackson, Alternative Dispute Resolution Analyst 4 with the Oregon Judicial Department and AJ Wahl, Pro Tem Judge, Clatsop Count.
